Calling all NZ horror folk!
Denver Grenell and I have long bemoaned how New Zealand horror often gets overlooked, both nationally and around the world. This October, we want to change that. Our plan is to show why more readers should look to the Southern Hemisphere for fresh and exciting new horror.
If you know us already… hey 😄
If you don’t, we are two indie horror authors from New Zealand who have published several horror books over the last eight years years, been involved in a bunch of community events, and even won a couple of awards along the way. We are passionate about all things horror, and finding ways to bring people together. We believe that by working to build connections within the wider horror community, we can do great things.
New Zealand Horror Books month, invites everyone who reads or writes New Zealand horror, or is a cover designer for New Zealand horror books/magazines, to promote their own work, and their favourite horror books, throughout October 2025.
This collaborative project aims to showcase the variety and uniqueness of New Zealand horror, and to draw attention to the abundance of creativity that this “small island” produces.
We’d love to get you involved in any way you have the capacity and time for.
Below are some short interview questions which will be posted on bewarethemoon.co.nz throughout October 2025.
You can also use the hashtag #nzhorrorbooks on Instagram and Facebook to shout out your own work or to support other Kiwi horror creatives.
Try to keep your answers short and snappy, and please provide supporting photos. (A headshot and an image of your books or artwork would be ideal.)
Answers can be sent to either me or Denver by replying to hello@tlwood.co.nz
Thanks heaps for your time,
Tee & Denver
